In terms of coins of the Romanian leu, these were first issued right when the Romanian leu was introduced back in 1867.

In 2005, however, it was replaced at a value of 1 new leu to 10,000 old.

Last week, the leu reached such a high rate against the euro that the National Bank of Romania had to intervene and restore the exchange rate back to around 37,000 lei per euro.
